Director of Youth Ministry Search
Winnetka Congregational Church, Winnetka, Illinois, is seeking a part-time Director of Youth Ministries.
WCC is a non-denominational, progressive Protestant church located in an affluent community on Lake Michigan, twenty miles north of Chicago. Founded in 1874, the congregation has a strong history of ministry to the community. We have an active membership of about 400 and an average Sunday attendance of about 125 (in person and online).
The job of the Director of Youth Ministries is to build and facilitate our church’s ministries to middle school and high school youth. The traditional forms of these ministries have been Navigators (middle school) and Servants (high school). These ministries have diminished in recent years, and we are seeking a person to develop and implement new ways to meet the spiritual needs of our youth. Our congregation is in a visioning process that is teaching us to build our imaginative capacity for exploring and trying “out of the box” ways of being church today. This includes our ministries to youth.
Qualifications:
- spiritually open and curious
- reliable, creative, energetic, and emotionally mature
- collaborates well as a member of the church staff
- relates well to youth with a variety of personalities and interests
- experienced in the development and implementation of successful youth ministry.
- familiar with and eager to work in a progressive, LGBTQ+-affirming Christian church.
- good administrative and communication skills, including outreach and communication via email, social media, and other electronic means.
- willing to adhere to and support our Safe Church Policy
The position will require planning for and participating in the annual eight- day Servants mission trip in June 2024 and supporting Christmas activities such as the Pageant, Gift Fair, and Wish Tree. The position does not include Confirmation, which is led by the Acting Senior Pastor/Designated-Term Pastor and adult faith guides.
We anticipate that this position will require 12-15 hours per week. The Director of Youth Ministry works closely with the Acting Senior Pastor/Designated-Term Pastor, members of the Children and Youth Committee, other staff members and lay leaders, and reports to the Acting Senior Pastor/ Designated-Term Pastor.
