WCC Reads

August 19, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until September 2, 2020

Don’t miss our summer all-church book read of  Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson, each Wednesday in August and the first week of September from 1:00-2:15 p.m. on Zoom.

As our nation takes a closer look at the racial disparities in our criminal justice system, many people are reading (and re-reading) Stevenson’s 2014 book, which was made into a film by the same name in 2019.

Just Mercy is Stevenson’s account of his efforts as a young defense attorney with the Equal Justice Initiative to defend the wrongly condemned, revealing a criminal justice system too often stacked against people of color. Stevenson, founder of The Legacy Museum in Birmingham, Alabama, is a masterful storyteller. The riveting narrative not only exposes a broken system but shows that redemption, mercy, and justice are still possible.
