Grant funding released to local social service agencies

The Covid 19 pandemic and ensuing economic crisis has led to extreme hardship for many families in the Chicagoland area in 2020. In addition, the WCC Rummage/Benevolence Committee was unable to hold either of its large public sales in 2020, the proceeds of which in a typical year fund around 40 agencies.

For many the situation is bleak, but the news is not all bad. This year the Winnetka Congregational Church Council voted to release a portion of its reserves to be awarded as grants to social service agencies in the Chicagoland area serving the most vulnerable among us.

The Finance Committee recognized that this was an opportunity for WCC to share its treasure in a fiscally responsible way in this time of great need. Grants will be awarded later this quarter to agencies submitting to the Benevolence Committee vetting process. This is one more way that WCC is making a real difference in our community.
