During the school year, we offer church school for children in Junior Kindergarten through sixth grade. Children join their parents for the beginning of worship at 10 am in the sanctuary. Following the children’s message, children and teachers are dismissed for Church School. Upon leaving worship, children and teachers gather on the amphitheater stairs for an introduction to the morning’s lesson and the collection of the Children’s Offering. They are then dismissed by class to their rooms. Parents are welcome to accompany their children for all or part of Church School, but we also ensure that there are always two adults in each room. Children in JK and Kindergarten, as well as in the nursery, need to be picked up in their rooms on the first floor of the Education Wing after worship. Children in First through Sixth grade are dismissed at 11:00 to meet their families.
The JK/K church school program introduces children to the church and the Bible through stories and activities. This class is led by our church school coordinator. Our First through Sixth grade program uses a curriculum chosen by the Children and Youth committee on a yearly basis. All of our classes are taught by Safe Church certified adult volunteers.
Children’s Ministry Outreach
As part of our formational Christian education philosophy, our church school children often engage in mission work using their own skills and abilities. A Children’s Offering is collected each Sunday during our “Stair Time” at the beginning of Church School and goes to benefit mission and outreach programs such as Heifer International. In addition, the children also participate in various service projects that benefit both the church and the wider community.
Bible Sunday
Each Fall, the church presents personalized, age-appropriate bibles to our Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 3rd, and 8th grade students. Children are encouraged to take their Bibles home—copies of the same Bibles are available for every student in the Church School rooms.
