Sermons

Imagining together how we can be a part of God’s work in the world.

Like most churches, we have sermons at our Sunday morning gatherings.  But around here the sermons aren’t about making pronouncements and telling you what to believe. Instead they’re about helping us all wrestle with the big questions together. Questions like: Why are we born? Why do we die? Why do bad things happen to good people? Why is so much so messed up in the world? What does it really mean to follow Jesus who told us he came to bring good news to the poor and to set the oppressed free?  How can we truly love God, ourselves, our neighbors and our world, as God loves us? And how can we come to know the Bible as a living text that relates to our lives today?

Here’s a sampling of some of our recent sermons:

"Not Knowing as Spiritual Practice"

The Rev. Jeffrey Phillips, Acting Senior Pastor and Designated-Term Pastor

"Must I Be Perfect?"

The Rev. Allen Mothershed, Interim Associate Pastor

"Navigating Our Own Stormy Seas"

Guest Preacher Richard Santi
