07 Nov The prayer we all need right now.
The U.S. election results emphasize that we are a nation divided; some jubilant, some enraged, some hurt, some expectant. As spiritual people, we will not lose hope among our divisions.
No matter how deep our divide, God is God—powerful in grace and love. We know and trust a divine constant who empowers us to graciously love our neighbor, heal our divisions, and strive for justice.
To support hope in your spirit, I share a prayer of benediction. The prayer is based on a writing by Native American theologian Steven Charleston, a former Episcopal Bishop of Alaska.
When others hate, may you love.
When others curse, may you bless.
When others hurt, may you heal.
When others divide, may you unite.
When others rage, may you calm.
When others deny, may you affirm.
You are a servant of the light.
You need not be afraid of darkness.
God strengthen you and carry on with your work
and faithfully live who you are in Christ;
Love for stranger, love for enemy, love for neighbor.
Amen
